Neutreeno’s bottom-up decarbonisation platform modelled our production processes to deliver highly granular facility-level results in a short timeframe, providing credible, comparable evidence.
The Challenge
Danone needed to make informed decisions about their packaging choices for their bottled water products. This involved getting a clear overview of the product carbon footprint of their glass, aluminium or plastic water bottles. Easily comparable results were needed for environmental impact insights and clear evidence to aid internal decision-making.
The Process
Instead of chasing supplier-specific data across a fragmented packaging supply chain, we modelled the underlying industrial processes that actually produce each material. This is what real process intelligence looks like in practice.
Week 1 Mapped the production routes behind Danone's core packaging materials, glass, aluminium, and plastic, using our proprietary Process Network, live data drawn from over 40,000 real-world facilities.
Week 2 Generated cradle-to-gate carbon footprints for each packaging option at process-level granularity, replacing generic emission factors with a true picture of how each material is made.
Week 3 Ran scenario analysis to show how specific choices, recycled content, energy source, sourcing route, shift emissions, turning packaging decisions into a lever for measurable impact.
Every result was benchmarked against GHG Protocol, ISO 14067, and PACT, giving Danone a dataset built for both internal decision-making and external validation, engineered for scrutiny, built to scale.
How Neutreeno Helped
Neutreeno’s platform calculated credible outputs aligned with GHG Protocol, ISO 14067, and PACT frameworks, providing trusted data for internal teams, external partners, and customers.
Neutreeno were able to identify actionable decarbonisation levers specific to each packaging type, such as energy efficiency, material switches, or sourcing improvements.
Neutreeno’s approach bypassed the lengthy process of a full Life Cycle Assessment. Using readily available data inputs, Neutreeno’s intelligent system offered the chance to identify the industrial methods used to produce the respective products and use that knowledge to calculate the associated emissions.

Key Results
Direct, uniform comparisons between packaging choices, glass, aluminium and plastic water bottles. Neutreeno identified process specific granular insights such as recycled content levels to indicate emissions levels. These insights fed into the wider analysis from CISL to create a holistic environmental impact assessment of various packaging solutions. Understanding the nuanced trade-offs of the existing options and the potential of future project.

- Fast results in weeks not months
- Confidence-inspiring results with low levels of scientific uncertainty
- Greater evidence-based insights into decarbonisation strategy and potential
- Results that fed into clear-cut operational decision-making
